Whether a single family, or a couple of families on vacation together, this guesthouse sits on the isolated and wooded 4 acres of our personal residence. The house faces the lake with the main house on the other side of the driveway behind the guesthouse on a hill. You cannot see any neighbors from anywhere on our property. Our home faces the back of the guesthouse providing you with better privacy.
The 1,588 square foot modular home features 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, a large living room with fireplace and two sitting areas of large sofas and love seats which offer additional sleeping options for larger get-togethers. Tucked into a corner of the living room is a small computer desk with a printer – but no Internet access – for those who want to work on laptops or need to print out documents. Hopefully you are here to play, not to work, but it is available for your use.
We are 30 miles from Muskogee, 13 miles from Wagoner, 22 miles from Tahlequah, and 55 miles from Tulsa. The home is located Just 4 miles north of Hwy 51 between Wagoner and Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Also, Whitehorn Cove, situated across the lake from this guesthouse, has a restaurant on the water. There is an additional drive up to our large shop providing vehicles with boats a turn around point to drive the 5 minutes down to the Sunset Valley boat ramp to Lake Fort Gibson.
There is no telephone in the house, but most people now carry cell phones, so that should not be a problem. In case of emergency, guests are welcome to use the phone in the Main House and there is no charge for long distance calls within the continental United States.
The kitchen is completely stocked with everything needed for those who want to save money while on vacation and make meals together. With stove, oven, refrigerator, microwave, appliances, dishwasher, and a connected laundry room with washer and dryer (iron and ironing board in laundry room); everything you need is supplied except food. Dishes, glasses, coffee cups and coffee maker, pots and pans, utensils – everything you need is here. It is a working kitchen. Inside dining features a small breakfast room in kitchen for 4, plus a café style dining room which seats an additional 8 people. Or you can move your meals outside to the lake facing deck with picnic table and barbeque grill. The south end of the home is a large open area with picnic tables and great lake views for outdoor activities. This includes a fire pit with a good supply of wood for those evenings you would like to spend outside around a cozy fire roasting marshmallows or hot dogs. The trees offer plenty of shade for those hotter days in the summer.
Each bedroom is decorated in its own style. The master bedroom with full size bed and a twin bed is the Lighthouse Room. Decorated with light houses, this room offers a very large bathroom with huge tub, separate shower stall, and two sinks. An additional roll out twin bed can also be found in the master bedroom closet.
The other two bedrooms are located on the north end of the house and each has a full size bed. The Antique Bedroom is decorated with antique furniture and offers a warm and cozy place for a quiet night’s sleep. The middle bedroom is a bit more contemporary with wood and wrought iron furniture and a dressing table. All rooms are completely decorated and the closets are empty to provide you with places to hang clothes and set luggage out of your way. Also, on the north end of the house is the second bathroom. Decorated with a hint of the orient in reds and bamboo, it has a single sink, toilet, and full size tub and shower combination.
The closet in the laundry room contains extra pillows, sheets, and blankets for those extra people or children in your group. A playpen with tall sides, suitable for an infant bed, is also available.
While there is no cable or satellite TV, a large TV with DVD player, is located in the master bedroom and picks up local Tulsa channels with an antenna, and sits low enough for kids who want to bring along their X-box or Playstation and sit on the floor and play games, away from the living room where the adults may gather around the fireplace. Firewood is provided. A small supply of board games are available in the dining room baker’s rack, along with assorted magazines.
The common areas, living room, and café style dining room, are located in the center of the house. Parking is located at the north end of the home with easy access to the wood deck at the side door that leads directly into the laundry room and kitchen. The front door leads to the lake view wood deck porch and the sliding glass doors with heavy drapes offer privacy from the main house that sits about 100 feet behind the back of the house. During your stay, we will not intrude upon you, but respect your privacy. You can, however, come up to the main house for questions, directions, or problems with utilities or for use of the phone in emergencies.
In the event of severe weather, there is a small walk-in safe room in the Main house to which you can retreat. We keep a weather alert radio on during severe storm watches and warnings and will let you know if you need to come up to the Main house for protection during storms. Depending upon the size of your group, everyone might not fit into the safe room, but the bottom floor of the Main house will be at your disposal and a safer place to ride out a storm, and certainly better than in a tent or small RV!
